Even a very basic internet search will reveal that there are numerous individuals advertising their services as psychics, mediums or paranormal practitioners. Many people think that this is a modern trend but the facts are that paranormal practitioners were part of human society from the very beginning. They had different names. Some were called witches, others seers and yet others prophets, to name just a few. Today, many people consult a San Diego medium because they hope to gain some insight that will help them to improve their own lives.

Everything about the paranormal has always been controversial. There are many critics who say that there simply is no such thing as the paranormal and that no human being has special talents related to the paranormal. They say that psychics simply use very basic psychological techniques and principles to con their clients into believing that they have a special insight and that they can access information not obtainable by ordinary humans.

Critics also accuse psychics of misleading their clients by giving advice without the benefit of all the facts related to the issue at hand. If the client follow such uninformed advice blindly, he is most likely to make serious mistakes that can far far reaching consequences. When this happens, the psychic will deny responsibility, claiming that the client must have misunderstood or that he did not follow the instructions correctly.

Many psychics nevertheless run very successful and lucrative practices. Some top rated practitioners count celebrities, business leaders and other well known personalities under their clients. This certainly helps to popularize paranormal psychology. It is also a known fact that the police sometimes ask psychics to help them solve crimes. Successes in this regard have been publicised widely and certainly add credibility to the profession as a whole.

Psychics dismiss criticism against them as being based on misinformation. Psychics, reputable ones, at least, do not claim the ability to foresee the future or to read minds. They do not use special gadgets and rituals. They do not make up spells and they certainly do not perform magic acts. Their special talent, they say, is the ability to communicate with existences or beings that live in other dimensions.

Some psychics claim that they never chose to become paranormal practitioners. They were chosen, they say, by beings from other realms and their purpose is to receive messages from these beings and to deliver those messages to those for whom they are intended. They say that this is not a foreign concept and they point out that there are many examples in the Bible where God used earthlings as his messengers.

There are no laws or regulations governing the field of paranormal psychology. There are no license requirements either and this means that anyone can advertise his services as a psychic. Consumers need to understand that this means that they have nowhere to go if they are not happy or if they feel that they have been cheated. Care should be taken when choosing a specific psychic.

Whether one is a sceptic or a firm believer of the paranormal remains a person choice. One thing is certain, however. Paranormal psychology is becoming more popular than ever before. Perhaps people really want to believe that there are other, wiser beings that pay attention to goings on on this dimension.
