Discussions about race and treatment of different persons raise a big storm in whichever forum they are discussed. Race relations are responsible for disastrous actions of violence and conflicts around the world. Poor relationships have led to broken relationships and political tensions. It is upon individuals, executive members and management in all institutions to build better relationships between races. Here are tips to help improve the situation.

Discuss the possibility of different races co-existing without being violent or conflict. These are conversations that should happen without raising emotions and in the process forestalling eruption of conflicts. It makes perceived oppressors aware of the situations of other people. They get sober and have an opportunity to reflect on the impact their actions and words have on other people.

Jokes or actions that mock or make fun of other races should not be entertained. This includes stereotypes that are negative and only fuel conflicts between races. People must be made aware of the fact that words and actions that put other people down will not be tolerated. Do not laugh at such remarks or jokes. The person pushing the jokes will pick cue from you and stop the offensive approach.

Act introspectively about racism especially at personal level. The reflections should be on words you utter and the actions you take in different circumstances. These words are the sparks that light the fire of racism. Think of how offensive it would feel if such words were directed towards you. This is enough reason to keep the words out of your mouth. When you think of tragedies that result from racist jives, you will think twice before uttering a word or acting in a particular way.

Be critical of the things you view, read and listen to. If the materials you encounter promote racism, it is time to abandon them. Do not watch or support events that are racist in principle. Avoid even debates and comments that make the situation worse. Do not even support people whose activities or engagements are considered racist. This message must be sent loud and clear so that the perpetrators can understand the message.

Build a diverse community around you. Workers and management at all levels should represent all races. The message sent in such a case is that race does not determine the ability of a person to deliver. A diverse work environment gives confidence to all races that their contributions are cherished and that anyone can work in any environment.

Disciplinary action must be taken against anyone in the organization caught in racist actions. This should be part of your company policy. All workers and people within the premises must be made aware that the area does not entertain racism. Institution punitive measures against persons caught engaging thin the vice. This rule should apply ordinary workers and the top management alike. The majority must also be protected from reverse racism.

There is something unique in every situation. This calls for candid discussions about the negative effects of racism and how to overcome this vice. Raise awareness on the damaging effects of racism to help improve relationships between people. You must be practical and lead by example if you expect other people to take cue from you. Your campaign should be based on genuine assessments and discussions.
