It is great to have as many coping mechanisms as possible. That way, you won't have to just rely on one or two. It seems clear that the people who are flying high soaring above tragedies of life are those who have the most coping mechanism at their disposal, and they will use certain ones for specific situations as they see fit, so both knowing what the techniques are, being skilled at using it, and then being able to properly apply it to an appropriate situation are all necessary skills to be able to let the bad things go and step into the light.

If there is anything that you can do to slow yourself down when you feel like you might react out of anger or by spiraling into a pit of depression, this can help you. The way that many people are able to accomplish this is simply by taking a deep breath. That way, you don't even have to worry about reacting right away, and rather, you are doing and focusing on something that your body has known how to do naturally since before you were born, instead of trying to figure out your complex emotions that won't be helped by whatever outburst you're about to go into.

Many people would not get far through life if that did not have that one special friend to talk to. That is why best friends are such an important concept for so many people. For many others, it instead takes a group of friends so that you can pick the one who will understand your situation the most thoroughly at any given point in time, and you won't have to worry as much if that one special person who you can talk to gets sick or goes on a vacation.

An important thing for many people is their faith or spirituality. This is how so many have been able to overcome difficult life challenges. Were it not for their faith, they may not have had the strength, courage, or motivation to carry on with life, so their faith literally saved them.

Meditating might be a good idea for you. If you feel like you can't keep calm, this is a perfect thing to practice. It might take time, but it's very rewarding.

There are many books to read that can be inspiring, and this has helped many people heal when they are going through the toughest of times. Some movies can also have the same effect, so you might want to look for those if you're not a big book-reader. All it takes is the right intention behind the literature.

You might give yourself a certain mantra that picks you up or keeps you going. This could be something like, "It will all be okay." Whatever it takes to remind yourself that one day, you'll be happy again.

If you don't love yourself, you'd better start figuring out how to do so, and the sooner the better. It's impossible to heal without taking this first step. It may be hard, but you'll get it in time.
