One of the best places in Alaska to catch a trophy salmon is the Kenai Peninsula. It is world renowned for the size and variety of fish in the waters. The Kenai river lodge has everything needed for a memorable wilderness experience and an angling trip to beat all others.

The Peninsula lies just south of Anchorage so it is easy to get to, just three hours by road. The lodge is just off the Sterling Highway so is easy to find. However, its proximity to the capital and road network does not spoil the feeling of remoteness enjoyed there. The population of the whole region is less than 60 000 people and you can hike for days without seeing anyone.

Salmon is what Kenai is all about. The Largest King Salmon ever recorded was landed in the river. Trophy fishing is a big thing here so everything you need to enjoy a top angling trip is available. There is also a run of red salmon which are the species preferred by foodies and chefs.

The red salmon, more popular with cooks runs in June. Silver salmon also have two runs, one in August and the other in October. Salmon is not the only fish on the menu, there are also some pretty impressive trout to be found. Fishing licenses can be bought almost anywhere or online and the local area has tons of tackle shops to cater for every angling need.

The local town is called Soldotna and is close to the lodge. It is the regional capital and has all the facilities for anglers and tourists. There are plenty of shops and restaurants along with places to get information on the local area with museums and visitors centers.

Hiking trails lead off from the town so if you want to go walking, mountain biking or cross country running it is easy to do. Many tours leave from Soldotna taking tourists on bear watching, expeditions, whale watching and cruises through the fjords.

Soldotna is the nearest town to the lodge and has all the amenities a traveler may need. There are shops and restaurants, museum of local history and information centres for the local parks and wildlife. Several hiking trails leave the town and are accessible by bike. In the summer months there are a range of special events and festivals to enjoy including a beer festival.

For a fantastic fishing experience the Kenai River is a great place to go. Salmon is the main catch but anglers will be amazed by the range of species and the size of the fish. The area is easy to reach yet is an unspoiled wilderness of incredible beauty. Other activities include hiking, bird watching, canoeing, mountain biking and rafting.
