We are living in a world of words and as Manly Hall, the Canadian-born author and mystic said, "Words are potent weapons for all causes, good or bad." Due to the fact that this is so true, I have devised a quiz, so that you can test yourself to see whether you are aware of the profound effects that positive words, or negative words have.We often say words thoughtlessly but also, many times, we do not really mean what we say. In sense, we live in a semantic universe. Have you ever heard a father say that his child is dead lazy, or have you heard someone say, "I wanted to die, when.."perhaps he ran into a colleague that you were trying to avoid? Is that really what that person really meant, that is, that he wanted to die? Of course not, so you can see how vital the choice of positive words are.
Everyone of us expects positive breakthroughs in life, like having a successful business venture, getting out of debt, to be healthy or having a right life partner, but nothing is changing because Often we make a mistake, when we talk ourselves out of our plans by speaking negative things. You cannot talk defeat and expect to have victory. The moment you speak something out, you are giving life to something good or bad. Negative thoughts come to every person, you can't stop the thoughts from coming into your mind. The key to success is not to speak out negative thoughts. Do yourself a favor Be positive and zip your lips.Negative words can keep you away from your destiny. If you will roam around saying that I am not qualified enough, I don`t have it in me, I am too young or too old, I don`t have what it takes, then you would become exactly what you are saying.God has called every one of us to do something great. He has put some special talents within us. It's easy to make excuses but God wants us to move forward.Just imagine that your success is on the way, and you are talking about how it`s not going to happen, how you will never get the right things in your lives. May be you are a couple of months away from seeing the answer you are waiting for, maybe you have been praying or expecting good results in a specific sphere of your life. But right before it happens, you start verbalizing wrong words and the good things around you stand still.
We are showered every day by negative words. Turning on the television at news time gives us mostly a negative outpouring of words. Added to this, we have talk shows where people are always arguing and discussing negative events. Then a neighbour will pop in for a drink and tell you about the latest operation she had and once again, you are listening to negative words. You must discipline yourself to eliminate these negative words as much as possible.
'As If' thinking is a very powerful tool that can work for or against you. Since you are in charge of your thoughts you are the only one who can turn your negative 'As If' thinking into positive 'As If' thinking. When you catch yourself fighting that invisible enemy out to get you--pause--and choose to practice acting as if the world is a friendly place. Start by playing 'what if'--what if everyone in my world was out to help me achieve my greatest desires? What would your world look like? What options and opportunities would open up for you? For example:
If negative, abusive and destructive words have been spoken to us and we have allowed these words to take form and develop in us and believed them, we are living under their control. However, if we choose to cast down those words and throw away those paintings, and choose to let God's Word paint new pictures of love and wholeness, purity, prosperity and ability in us, we will find a new way of living. Here is an example of the power of negative words: Some time ago, I sang in church pretty often. I loved to sing, and still do. And people enjoyed when I sang. But one day, someone that I respected told me that I could not sing. This produced in me an inner image of failure in the area of singing. I stopped singing. And when I was asked to sing, I would make excuses so that I didn't have to sing.
In our own language we say expressions without thinking, but in another language we tend to notice the literal meaning of words and phrases. For example, there is a phrase in Italian "Non vale niente," that means it isn't worth anything when often the thing is being compared to another thing, but it does not really mean that the object is not worth anything! Another phrase e.g. "morire di noia" means to die of boredom. Translated in a typical sentence could be "I am so sick of working, I hope to die of boredom when I retire." Obviously, a person doesn't really want to die like this when they retire.
I will never forget reading at the start of my self-improvement journey that Louise Hay, the inspired woman who began the positive thinking movement, was on a trip to Australia. The organizer of her tour suggested an organizational shortcut. He said "We can kill two birds with one stone." The great lady, turned to him shocked and said, " Why on earth would you want to kill a bird with a stone?" She was so conscious of words that were spoken and the power of them and insisted always on the discipline of saying positive words.
He has hidden these destructive seeds in things that we think are okay, when in reality, they are painting some very hurtful and ungodly pictures right in the heart of our imaginations. These destructive thoughts are coming in the form of words and images, through the television programs and music that we watch and listen to which dishonors God and His Word.Think about the amount of violence, murders, foul language, illicit sex, witchcraft, gambling, adultery and drugs that are in the music and the television programs that our young people are watching and listening to constantly.Oh there is nothing wrong with this music, they say.Yes something is wrong with it.It has painted and is painting some very negative and destructive thought patterns in people's minds and they are acting them out big time.Everybody lives out what is in their hearts and minds in abundance, positive or negative.
So, in essence, you must be conscious of the meaning of the words you speak, be aware of the resounding effect these words have, discipline yourself to listen to a higher percentage of positive words than negative words, beware of unthinkingly using negativity in everyday expressions, and be proactive in using positive words in your business, home, and moment-to-moment living. It is so true as a wise voice from the past cautions us "The language we use to communicate with one another is like a knife. In the hands of a careful and skilled surgeon, a knife can work to do great good. But in the hands of a careless or ignorant person, a knife can cause great harm. Exactly as it is with our words." Some of us are enslaved to negative and degrading words. In order to change our lives, we must change the contents of our words, so that they ring with success, victory and power. Here is how we can begin making that kind of change today:Learn to speak positively. Say what you want to happen in your life, not necessarily what is happening now. For instance, even though things appear to be going against you and your needs may be lacking, say, My God supplies all of my needs. He is my provider and all is well. When God wanted light, He called for it. He spoke it. He did not say what was. He said what He wanted. Adopt His method of operating.Watch your words. Every time you find yourself about to say something negative, stop yourself. Turn it around and say the positive instead. If you feel inadequate and unable to complete a task, instead of saying, "I just can't do it", say, "I can do all things through Christ Who strengthens me."Read the Book of Proverbs and see what it has to say about your words. It will show you the benefits of speaking good, wholesome and productive words, while at the same time revealing the consequences of speaking negative words.Your words do matter. If you desire to be successful, then speak words of success. Do it continually and persistently and you will find success coming your way.
