Fusion bond is one kind of epoxy based powder coating which is generally used to provide protection to steel pipes. There are a lot of benefits that this can offer to pipeline constructions as it protects the surface against corrosion and other types of surface damage. It is important that pipeline construction is always in god condition especially that these are exposed to different external factors.

For its application, there are certain coating application temperatures that must be reached. In such temperature, the coating's powder contents will melt to liquid form which allows easier application to a surface. Shortly after application, the liquid turns to solid as it completely cures. Once the curing process is complete, the chemical reaction is irreversible making the coat stay in place.

Pipes perform tough functions and these are always at work. Despite their steel surfaces, these are still prone to damage because of their function and location. Most pipe connections are underground making them vulnerable to surface damage if they are not well protected. The right coating material can provide the level of protection needed by these pipes.

This type of material is preferred by most users because of the qualities it has. For one, this material is durable enough to withstand different environmental conditions it might be exposed to. Durability is an important quality that enables any material to last for a long time in order to fulfill its purpose. This material is also easy to apply.

At present, there are variations of the coating material which include dual coating and rough coat. Dual coating is used for subsea pipelines and other fixtures that are in tough environmental settings. This variations is resistant to impact and very flexible. Rough coat meanwhile has a non slip surface because of its roughness as implied by its name.

Before the coating is applied, surface preparation is necessary. This can be done by thorough inspection of the surface to see if there are any imperfections or dirt. Oil and grease are thoroughly removed from the surface. Imperfections can be removed by grinding, filing, and blasting. The surface is heated before the application is started.

The coating should be applied immediately after heating to avoid excessive cool down. It may affect the curing process if the coating is applied after the surface has already cooled down. Reheating the surface is one way to prevent this problem but this may take time. Application is done by using electrostatic guns or application rings. The coating dries a few minutes after application.

Several manufacturers are already making various products for those who have a need for this coating material. When buying products, one must pay attention to the manufacturer's special instructions on the application process. Different manufacturers may have their own steps for applying the coat and also the ratio needed for the material.

Professionals who may be in need of fusion bond must determine the most suitable product for their applications. This is widely used in the commercial and industrial sector. In some cases, this is also used for residential applications. Users must know how much they can benefit from using this type of coating material for various purposes.
