You may have heard the quote, that if you don't plan to win, you are planning to fail.
You have probably met, well-informed, or perhaps even brilliant people who were full of ideas, but somehow these ideas never eventualized. Maybe, you, yourself, are one of those people Or perhaps you aren't like that.
Winning, certainly, doesn't just "happen." There has to be a plan to win to back up your idea. This has been repeated constantly by the Self Help Movement. However, not many people have ever sat down to compile a plan of action. Are you a person who just meanders through existence and lets things just happen willy-nilly to you? That is the fast track to failure, or to the leading of a mediocre life.
However, this does not negate the power of "being in the moment." It does not exclude, either, having a prior plan to win. Would you dare to get on a plane , if you didn't know where the plane was going to? You unquestionably wouldn't, yet that is exactly what the normal person seems to do with his life. The idea of the aeroplane is ridiculous, but why don't people recognize the similarity with their own lives?
When you can finally convince yourself to write down your major objective and then compose a plan as to how you can reach this objective, you wil be on your way. You now will have the master plan for your journey in life. It is not even important that you have a perfect plan. Indeed, it would be strange if it was perfect, but it will give you a starting point. Now having a clear destination, having set your goal, made your plan (chopped down into tiny steps) you can merely follow your plan. It's that easy! This is just as you would follow your satellite guidance system, or a map. What could be easier!
This relieves you of the strain of always feeling you will never attain your goal, above all if your goal is a bold one. Attaining your goal, has now been cleverly divided into many smaller steps. If you merely think of the final objective, it is often easy to get completely overwhelmed.
This reminds me of a young friend I once gave some advice to. She was fresh out of high school, and beginning a long, arduous 5 year science degree. I could see she was completely overwhelmed, the day she was given the program and saw all the difficult exams that were ahead of her.
I said to her,"You must quit counting and recounting all those exams. Succeeding in the first exam only, is what you need to concentrate on. When you pass that, then you can go on to the next one.2 She was immediately relieved when I said that. Her discipline of concentrating on just one exam at a time worked. She graduated with honours and on her graduation day, I was touched when she whispered. "I did it. One exam at a time!"
I must confess, I often felt anxious myself when I focused on the program. I presume that because she was young and valued my opinion, she had taken my advice seriously. Her discipline and focus was definitely a great inspiration to me. It is not only knowing the things to do, but actually doing them, that gives you results.
This certainly underlines the other essential ingredient, if you plan to win. This is the fact of beginning and just doing it. Having no clear-cut plan, will block us from taking any sort of action. If your plan is not divided into doable parts, it can stop you from believing that you can reach your ultimate goal. This, will also block you from taking action.
One thing is sure, that your original plan will probably, and in most cases, be very different from the one you eventually follow. This is the norm and you must not be surprised. You will need flexibilty in observing your plan to win function properly. Things tend to change, and better things come along. Being tied too much to your original plan will not allow the Universe to step in and assist you.
